Children’s Book Publishing, Branding, and Web Design
From Early Layout to Print Production
This project began when a family friend approached me with a partially designed children’s book and a goal of getting it professionally published and distributed. My role evolved into refining the book’s visual design, preparing print-ready files, and guiding the project through the technical requirements of both Amazon KDP and IngramSpark.
I took the existing layout and illustrations and refined them for clarity, consistency, and print production, ensuring the final book met professional publishing standards. Because I was new to both platforms, this process involved extensive research, testing, and trial and error to fully understand trim sizes, bleeds, color profiles, file specifications, and distribution requirements. I handled full print file setup and validation for both platforms, successfully preparing the book for publication.
In addition to the book itself, I designed the logo for Nestle-In-Nature, originally intended as a temporary solution that ultimately became the official logo for the author’s LLC.
I also helped design and set up the Shopify website to support book sales and provide a home for the broader mission behind the project.
This work highlights my ability to take an incomplete creative project, refine it, navigate unfamiliar technical systems, and carry it through to a finished, real-world outcome.
This project was especially meaningful to me because of the impact behind the book. The author, Margot, uses it as part of her charity work, reading to children at nonprofit organizations in Costa Rica and supporting Children’s Eternal Rainforest, which focuses on rainforest conservation and environmental education. The book’s message centers on the idea that Earth is a shared home for all living creatures, and being able to support that mission through thoughtful design made this project deeply rewarding.
